MURDER cops are now investigating the unexplained death of a Knightwood man.

Detectives from the Major Investigation Teams have been called in to find out what happened to James McGowan who was found dead in Clydebank on Sunday, November 4.

The 49-year-old was discovered on the canal path of Braes Avenue at around 4.45pm.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and following a post mortem, officers continue to treat his death as unexplained.

Now however the force is trying to piece together what happened to him prior to this death.

They revealed that James may have been involved in another incident with a man in the city’s Howard Street prior to his death. No more details were provided on that incident.

Detective Inspector Grant Durie, of the Major Investigation Team, said: “We know that Mr McGowan frequents Glasgow City Centre and drinks within the Scotia Bar in Stockwell Street.

"In the early hours of Sunday morning, November 4, I believe Mr McGowan was in the company of a man in the vicinity of the St Enoch Centre and Howard Street. I am keen to trace this man as he may have vital information regarding Mr McGowan’s movements.

"The other man is described as being white, aged in his latest 20s, approximately 5 ft 10 inches in height and medium build. He was wearing a dark khaki hoody type jacket, black jeans and white trainers.

“We now understand that Mr McGowan was involved in an incident with another man in Howard Street. This man is described as being white, aged in his late 30s, about 5ft in height and slim build. He was wearing a dark jacket, black jeans and white trainers.

“We know that James boarded a number two First Bus, which left Glasgow City Centre at 1.50am on Sunday, November 4.

"He sat on the rear seat and travelled to Clydebank before walking along the Forth and Clyde Canal towards Braes Avenue.

“I am anxious to speak with anyone who may have seen Mr McGowan on Saturday night, November 3 or Sunday morning, November or 4 has any information about the incident in Howard Street.”

James is 5 ft 9 inches to 5ft 11 inches in height and medium build.

When found, he was wearing a green fisherman type jacket, with a burgundy hoody underneath, dark jeans and black training shoes.
