Former Trump aide Steve Bannon is expected to face protesters as he speaks at an international media conference in Edinburgh

The ex-White House strategist, who worked on the Trump presidential campaign, is due to take part in the News Xchange 2018 conference in the Scottish capital.

Hundred of demonstrators are expected to greet Mr Bannon outside the Edinburgh International Conference Centre later this afternoon.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon withdrew from the event after he was announced as one of its main speakers.News Xchange is a gathering of journalists and media operators from around the world.

Organisers defended the decision to invite him to take part, saying it was their "journalistic responsibility to share and scrutinise a range of relevant viewpoints within the framework of a balanced debate".

But Ms Sturgeon insisted at the time she would "not be part of any process that risks legitimising or normalising far right, racist views".

This morning it was announced that Mr Bannon would speak at the Oxford Union on Friday.
