A MAN has been arrested after police swooped on a small South Lanarkshire town.
The man was arrested in Lesmahagow around 6.30pm last night in connection with being in possession of an offensive weapon.
Witnesses reported several police cars and a helicopter were on the scene at Bankhead Avenue.

The 24-year-old man was arrested in connection with being in possession of an offensive weapon.
He was later released without charge and enquiries are ongoing.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Around 6.30pm a 24-year-old man was arrested in connection with being in possession of an offensive weapon in Lesmahagow.
