THE water supply is down across several areas of the city.
Scottish Water said that customers would experience interruption to their supplies in the following postcode areas G12 (West End's Cleveden, Dowanhill, Hillhead, Hyndland, Kelvindale, Botanic Gardens and University of Glasgow), G20 (Maryhill, North Kelvinside and Ruchill), G23 (Lambhill and Summerston), G41 (Pollokshields and Shawlands) and G42 (Battlefield, Govanhill, Mount Florida, Strathbungo and some of Toryglen).
The issue extended outside the city boundary into East Dunbartonshire with Milngavie and Bearsden's G61 and G62 postcodes also losing supply.
A statement from the firm said: "Customers in a large area of Glasgow may be experiencing interruption to supplies. We have an operative enroute to investigate the cause of this.
"We apologise for any inconvenience this may be causing customers and will provide a further update as soon as more information becomes available."
Several Glaswegians took to Twitter to hit out at the failure which happened as many people were waking up to head to work.
It is not known yet whether schools in the area will open as normal.
