HUNDREDS of jobs are to created across Scotland’s railways.

Network Rail Scotland will be advertising an additional 200 jobs this summer as it prepares to invest billions over the next five years.

The jobs will be based across Scotland, including in the North East, Highlands, Perthshire and the South West as well as across the Central Belt.

Posts on offer include administrative, logistics and planning jobs, technician and team leader roles as well as construction and project management posts and rail operative jobs.

Scotland’s railway is currently undergoing a period of enhancement unmatched since the Victorian era and across the country Network Rail is working on projects to expand the railway, improve passenger facilities and introduce greener, faster electric trains.

Between 2019 and 2024 more than £4bn will be spent on running and maintaining the country’s rail infrastructure and the company needs to add to its highly-skilled workforce to help deliver a rail network fit for 21st century Scotland.

Nick Pascazio, Network Rail Scotland’s head of human resources, said: “We’re currently building the best railway Scotland has ever had and to do that we need to recruit and retain the best people.
