GLASGOW'S music scene is banding together to celebrate the fourth anniversary of Barrowland Park.

Musicians, gig venue bosses and record labels have signed a birthday card while artists such as Alex Kapranos of the group Franz Ferdinand, BMX Bandits, and Del Amitri have sent good wishes to Fans of Barrowland Park.

An online card is to be hosted on Glasgow Music City Tours' website.

A spokeswoman from the Tours said: “We spend a lot of time at Barrowland Park, which we visit every Saturday morning on our Merchant City Past and Present tour.

"Our Album Pathway walks have become conducive to shared memories about the Barrowland and this is something that clearly resonates with our guests.”

The East End park officially opened on July 19, 2014 but the Fans of group decided to hold a belated celebratory get-together tomorrow to coincide with the arrival of a People's Piano.

The piano, called Yogi, will be in the park at various times throughout the duration of the 2018 European Championships.

Elaine Docherty, Fans of Barrowland Park Secretary, said: “We are thrilled so many influential Glasgow artists and industry professionals recognise the park, and support its place within Glasgow's musical heritage.

"We look forward to people stopping by to play Yogi over the coming days.

"Local groups are also encouraged to come along and bring live entertainment, which we hope there will be much more of in the years to come.”

Committee members will be at the park on Saturday between 11am and noon to speak to passerby about the park, and about their efforts to promote and maintain it.

The status of the park is temporary and continues to be listed by Glasgow City Council as a potential development area.
