STEVEN GERRARD hopes to make Jake Cooper his tenth signing of the summer after launching a £3million bid to bring the Millwall defender to Ibrox.

The Light Blues boss added Lassana Coulibaly and Umar Sadiq to his squad on Tuesday as they finalised season-long loan moves from Angers and Roma respectively.

Gerrard has already completed deals for stoppers Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic in recent weeks, while full-back Jon Flanagan put pen-to-paper on a two-year contract after leaving Liverpool.

The 38-year-old remains in the market for further reinforcements, however, and Rangers have returned to the negotiating table in a bid to strike a deal for Cooper.

Millwall are reluctant to lose the former England youth internationalist after an impressive campaign that saw him make 42 appearances as Neil Harris’ side narrowly missed out on a Championship play-off berth.

New Den boss Harris has previously insisted that none of his players were for sale this summer but Rangers hope to bring Cooper north of the border.

The Gers remain short of centre-back options after David Bates and Russell Martin left Ibrox at the end of the campaign and Bruno Alves has also headed for the exit door.

The Portuguese centre-half has reached an agreement over the final 12 months of his contract and agreed a return to Serie A with Parma.

Rangers are back in competitive action on Thursday night when they face FK Shkupi in the Europa League first qualifying round at Ibrox.

The Gers have until midnight tomorrow to add a further two players to their European squad and that could see Coulibaly and Sadiq handed their debuts against the Macedonian minnows.

There will be no place for Lee Wallace, Fabio Cardoso, Harry Forrester or Eduardo Herrera, however, after they were omitted from the list submitted to UEFA on Friday.
