A MAN caught driving while disqualified for a third time was jailed today for six months.

Muhammed Gazi, 28, was snared behind the wheel of a BMW in Glasgow’s Royston on March 1, 2023.

The city’s Sheriff Court heard that police attention was drawn to the vehicle as it was supposed to be insured by an elderly man.

Officers followed the vehicle and brought it to a stop to speak to driver Gazi.

Prosecutor Jacky Wall said: “Officers carried out checks and saw that he was disqualified until November 30, 2024.

“There was no insurance for the vehicle.”

Gazi pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and without insurance.

Lesley Graham, defending, told the court: “The reason we are at court is stupid.

“The car is now in Dumfries at a family address and has made efforts to put the car up for sale to avoid the temptation.”

Sheriff Diana McConnell told Gazi that there was not an alternative to a custodial sentence.

She added: “You have a bad record and drove when subject to two disqualification orders.

“You were being supervised and doing two community payback orders, subject to a deferred sentence for driving while disqualified and you were on bail.”

Gazi was also banned from driving for 27 months.
