A SHREWD Glasgow punter scooped more than £15,000 - after betting £15 last month.

His patient wait for a five-figure windfall ended on Sunday, with the English golfer Matthew Fitzpatrick’s triumph at the US Open in Boston.

The anonymous customer had struck a £15 accumulator on their BoyleSports account at the end of May and started their winning streak when 13/8 shot Clear The Runway won a six-runner handicap chase at Cartmel Racecourse.

Days later, Luxembourg beat Lithuania in the UEFA Nations League at 11/8, before the third leg of the bet was ticked off by Rafael Nadal’s victory at the French Open in Paris at odds of 4/1.

That left a nervous wait for the US Open where the big win hinged on 33/1 pick Matt Fitzpatrick.

A nail-biting final round at Brookline saw the Sheffield man win the tournament by a single shot, enough to spark the celebrations in Glasgow as it triggered a staggering payout totalling £15,897.66.

Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports bookmakers, said: “Little did Matt Fitzpatrick know just how much his US Open victory was going to be welcomed in Glasgow, but fair play to our winning customer on their stunning haul.

“They were willing to wait a few weeks for their selections to deliver, but it was well worth it and we hope they enjoy the celebrations.”
