A FLAT has been left "extensively damaged" after being set on fire in Paisley. 

Emergency services were called to Morven Street at around 8pm yesterday following of a report of a flat on fire. 

Several flats nearby had to be evacuated as a result of the blaze.

Six residents were assessed by ambulance staff at the scene but no one was injured or required hospital treatment. 

Police say the fire is being treated as "wilful" and are appealing for anyone who witnessed anything suspicious to get in touch. 

Officers will be checking any relevant CCTV from the area. 

Detective Inspector Jan MacColl said: "The flat has been extensively damaged, and I am appealing to anyone who may have been in the area around the time of the incident who may have seen something or someone which looked a little suspicious to get in touch with us.

"I’d also like to ask residents with doorbell recording equipment to check their footage.

"It's possibly captured images which could assist in our investigation."
