A CHARTERED surveyor from Uddingston has been announced as Glasgow’s ‘Second Citizen’.

Andrew McFarlane is the new Lord Dean of Guild at the city’s Merchants House.

The charity, which has donated more than £2.5m in the last five years alone to support good causes and individuals in need, has been an integral part of the city since 1605.

Andrew expressed “deep honour and commitment” to his new role and added: “I look forward to continuing the invaluable work of my predecessors and positively impacting the lives of the people in Glasgow and the west of Scotland.”

Being the Second Citizen of Glasgow means Andrew will participate in numerous civic events, supporting the Lord Provost in welcoming visitors to the city and acknowledging the accomplishments of fellow citizens.

Former Lord Dean May Storrie, the first ever female to be appointed to the role in more than 400 years, sadly died last month.

Craig Vickery, CEO of the Merchants House, said “I’m delighted to welcome Andrew as our new Lord Dean, starting the next chapter in the history of the Merchants House.

“The great thing about history is it's a living and evolving thing and the work we do today continues to add to our story.”

Andrew currently serves as a consultant at DM Hall and he lives in Uddingston with his wife Margaret and their labrador Bruce.
