A SIZZLING heatwave and giant music festival have taken its toll on Glasgow's most famous park.

Glasgow Green has lost its colour after thousands descended on the city venue for TRNSMT amid soaring temperatures.

Twitter user reGlasgow showed two snaps taken from the sky which show the former dear green place has turned brown.

It said: "After a month of use for the TRNSMT music festival and weeks of sunny weather, Glasgow Green isn't really living up to its name."

Twitter users responded in horror at the damage to the grass, with one saying "wow, it's really trashed this year," while another dubbed it "Glasgow Grey".

Work has already begun to resolve the issue, as the latter of the two images show.

In the image, a strip of freshly laind green grass can be seen on the damaged area.

It was captioned: "Work well underway on Monday to make Glasgow Green green again."

A spokesman for the council said: “The recent heatwave has been the hottest and driest since the record breaking summer of 1976.

“In the circumstances it is inevitable the heat and lack of rain will have impact on the look of our parks.

“Like many of us in recent weeks, the grass has effectively suffered from sunburn.

“It must be stressed, however, that the grass at the Green has not died, with the vitally important root systems still very much alive.

“There is further rain forecast for the end of this week and that will aid the recovery of the grass as will a general return to the weather more usually experienced in Glasgow.

“The new turf being laid across an area of around 4000 square metres was already planned as part of the events programme for the Green.

“The income generated from hiring out our parks is used to support the Land and Environment Services department, which is directly responsible for our parks.”
