HUNDREDS of people have signed a petition calling for the CEO of Glasgow Pride to resign.

Disgruntled ticketholders have been left out of pocket after showing up to the event and not being allowed in.

Organisers said interest in the event had 'far exceeded expectations' after hundreds were refused entry into Kelvingrove Park due to it being over capacity.

Around 12,000 people joined the march through Glasgow, the largest number in the event's history but not all were allowed to entry.

The mood surrounding the event turned sour with some accusing organisers taking money in the knowledge that not everyone would get in.

Mikey McLaughlin said: "This isn’t an accident, you have been accepting tens of thousands of payments for months knowing that these people may not get in.

"Because you plan to let others pay at the gate. Double payments for you and thousands don’t get in! It’s disgusting."

Paul Adam added: "The number of people who joined the march is irrelevant, whether it was 12,000 or 50,000.

"The venue holds 6000 so only 6000 tickets should have been sold or given out.

"If you don't have a ticket you can't get in and no tickets should be available on the door if you are sold out. It's time to hand the event over to professional event organisers and ticketing agents.

"What an absolute disgrace to the city and community who showed support."

A petition calling for CEO Alastair Smith to stand down has been garnering support with 834 putting their names to it.

The page reads: "Thousands of happy people marched through Glasgow for this years Pride event.

"Many people then were looking forward to the festival at Kelvingrove Park. Again many of them had prepaid either for the day or for the weekend plus the Steps after party.

"However this was not to be. Greedy organisers of this event saw fit to keep on selling tickets for this event without taking any notice of the legal capacity of which they would have been fully briefed on when seeking a license for the event. "

It adds: "This led to thousands of people being stranded outside of the event hot, dehydrated and royally let down by the organisers. They had paid as a customer for an advertised product and not received this which by law warrants a full refund. Many people were collapsing in the heat outside whilst organisers still proceeded to post on social media how great the event was.

"This clearly was not the case for all! No one has taken responsibility for this absolute shambles of an event not even explaining to people what they will be doing to rectify this disaster.

"Someone needs to be answerable to this. I believe that the buck stops with the boss therefore I am calling for Alastair Smith to stand down as CEO of Pride Glasgow with immediate effect"

Pride Glasgow is yet to respond to the petition.

Ticketholders have not been informed on whether they will be refunded for their tickets.
