DETECTIVES have appealed for witnesses after an elderly man was assaulted and robbed near Central Station.

The pensioner, who is in his seventies, was targeted by a man he had been speaking to at the entrance to the station last Saturday in the late afternoon.

The elderly victim was followed by the man as he walked down Union Street towards Argyle Street.

The man wrestled with the victim, stole his wallet and £200 and fled in the direction of the Royal Scot pub. 

The incident happened on Saturday, July 7, shortly after 4.45pm.

The suspect was white, around 50-years-old, of a stocky build, short grey hair and walked with a limp. He was wearing a grey pullover top and matching grey bottoms.

Officers are currently making a number of enquiries, including looking at CCTV from the area and would like to speak to any witnesses who may have seen the incident.
