A BURST water main caused major disruption to traffic and water supplies today across Glasgow.

Areas affected by a burst water main in the Garscube area included G3 , G4,G20,G21,G22,G23 and G31.

Scottish Water said supplies had been restored to a significant number of properties but work is continuing.

Scottish Water, fire, police and ambulance crews were at the scene.

The flooding caused rush hour travel chaos for early morning commuters.

Emergency repair teams scrambled to the scene on Phoenix Road close to the M8 sliproad before 7am. Traffic began to build in the area after a large amount of water had gathered on the road.

Vehicle were seen almost completely submerged in the water.

Scottish Water posted on Twitter: "We are currently on site opening various boundary valves to maintain supplies to properties affected by the burst main at Garscube Road.

"Once the burst main is isolated customers in the Cowcaddens, Garnethill, Keppochhill Road and the Garscube East and West areas may experience fluctuations in supply while we carry out the repair.

"Customers in the Greater Glasgow area should expect their supplies to return to normal.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this may be causing customers and will provide a further update on the repair as soon as more information becomes available."
