THE countdown is underway to one of Glasgow’s best loved charity events.
In just over a week, hundreds of children will enjoy a fun-filled trip to the seaside, thanks to big hearted taxi drivers.
The Glasgow Taxi Outing Fund launched its 73rd annual trip to Troon today with the help from pupils at Langlands Primary School.
The famous event is attended by thousands of well-wishers at the traditional starting point of Kelvin Way, before the taxis weave through Glasgow’s city centre and south side then on to Ayrshire, to be welcomed by even more enthusiastic supporters.
Jim Buchanan, Glasgow Taxi Outing Fund chair, said: “The excitement is starting to build with just one week to go before the latest Glasgow Taxi Outing Fund trip to Troon.
“We are all set for another day of fun and fancy dress and hope to provide the children taking part with an unforgettable trip to the seaside. “A special thanks goes to all the drivers and volunteers who make the day happen, and all the generous sponsors who support us too.”
Supporters of this year’s trip include longstanding backers Glasgow Taxis Ltd and Celtic FC Foundation as well as returning sponsor Stewart Milne Homes.
Stephen Flynn, Chairman of Glasgow Taxis Ltd, said: “The generosity of the drivers, and the support it receives from the public is incredible.”
