The viral appeal read: “Young Motherwell fan found dead today in Wishaw aged 19.

“I think it would be respectful for him and his family if we could do a minute’s applause on the 19th minute for Stephen Mearns.

“Any Celtic fans on here that could share this post would be grateful from another Motherwell fan.”

Marianne told the Scottish Sun: “Stephen was perfect, everyone loved him.

“He lit up the room when he walked in and had a great personality.

“He was always full of carry on and everyone adored him.

“He was such a popular boy and it would mean a lot to our family to see a minute’s applause.
