Creator Derren Litten has written an all-new set of Costa Blanca escapades for the much-loved cast members, including Mateo, Jacqueline, Sam and Kenneth.

Derren said: “I’ve loved ten years of writing my TV show Benidorm but despite a successful writing career I’m first and foremost a performer.

“I have always been secretly frustrated I couldn't hear the audience’s laughter. This national tour of Benidorm Live will not only make a long-lasting dream come true but will also mean I no longer have to stand in strangers’ gardens listening at their windows at 9 o’clock on cold winter evenings.”

The critically acclaimed TV show – it has received two National Television Awards - was first broadcast in 2007 and has been running for ten series.

However, Derren Litten never set out to write a hit sitcom.

After leaving school in Hull in the late 1980’s, he spent a year working as a professional magician while auditioning for drama college.

At college in London he met fellow student Catherine Tate who later asked Derren to write for her new TV sketch show.

His writing talent was recognised by legendary comedy producer Geoffrey Perkins, who commissioned him to write a sitcom with the proviso; “Just write anything you want as long as it’s funny.

Derren Litten complied. Now, he’s gone on to write for the stage.

“This is like an exclusive, extended live action episode of Benidorm you can only see if you come to the theatre,” he announced.

“It’s also the nearest you’ll get to going on holiday with the cast.”

He added, smiling; “I’m not really into self-congratulation but I have to say this is the most hilarious, outrageous Benidorm script I have ever written.

“My only regret is, as an actor, is I didn’t write a part or myself.

“Maybe I should put myself forward as an understudy? I think I’d make a great Joyce Temple-Savage.”

The show, which features songs, will be produced for the stage by Michael Harrison and David Ian.
