A community bar in the South Side of Glasgow is set to reopen after closing earlier this year.

Owners of the likes of The Raven, Smokin’ Fox and The Spiritualist have acquired the Church on the Hill in Shawlands.

The new owners will re-launch the former church next month following a £650,000 extensive refurbishment with a fresh approach to food, beverage, entertainment and atmosphere.

Having built up a large loyal following over the past 10 years, the bar has become something of an institution within the Southside.

Shaun Donnellan, area manager, said: “Glasgow’s Southside is an area so full of pride, talent and creativity, so it’s crucial to us to ensure the ‘spirit of the Southside’ remains firmly at the heart of this project.

“It has always been important to us that we support local, independent businesses where possible, so we are looking to engage in sponsorship opportunities with community sports teams and to provide long-term contributions to local charities.

"We’re also excited to say that we will be a host venue for 2018’s Southside Fringe!”

The chefs behind The Raven and Smokin’ Fox have created a menu which includes gastro classics to dishes with a difference, such as the Spice Rubbed Lamb Shoulder or Beer Glazed Whole Roast Cauliflower and a Church on the Hill burger.

The team at The Spiritualist have collaborated with the Church on the Hill to inject a creative twist into the drinks menu, making this Southside establishment a bar to rival its city centre peers.
