Tributes have been paid to a teenage girl who died after being hit by a car at a pedestrian crossing in East Kilbride.

The 15-year-old girl, who has been named locally as Megan Scott, was struck by an 18-year-old driver at the A749 Kingsway on Wednesday.

Emergency services rushed to the scene around 5.45pm but the popular Calderglen High School pupil was pronounced dead on their arrival.

Friends of the teenager frantically posted online on Wednesday afternoon asking for anyone who had seen Megan to get in touch, before they were given the devastating news.

The driver of the black VW Scirocco which struck the teenager was uninjured.

Elif Bolat wrote: “RIP Megan Scott fly high angel you never deserved this your family and friends are in my thoughts and prayers.”

Friend Lucie Todd described Megan as “the most gorgeous, funny and loveliest girl ever” in an online tribute.

She said: “Honestly most heartbreaking thing ever to say this but rest in peace megan.

“Life’s too short , will never take anything for granted again. Thoughts go out to Megan’s friends and family.”

Catherine Crichton posted: “My thoughts and love go out to Megan's family. Things like this happen all the time but I've never took proper notice to it but when it hits home it makes you really think.

“I've only recently got to know Megan and she was a beautiful girl that had her full life ahead of her. life is too short and you need to grasp every single opportunity you get and let the ones you love know how much you mean to them .

“There isn't a rewind button or a switch to start again so you need to make every moment count , do what makes you happy and live like there is no tomorrow. Rest in peace Megan gbnf.”
