Crowds have flocked to the Apple store in Glasgow’s Buchanan Street on the day the tech giant releases its most expensive handset to date.

The queue from the store curved around onto St. Vincent Street in scenes that are a stark contrast to the day the iPhone 8 hit stores in September.

The Evening Times previously reported how the launch of that phone failed to attract big crowds in the city for the very first time.

Two keen Glaswegian teenagers waited nearly 12 hours, only for no sizeable crowd to form behind them.

However, it seems Glasgow has been saving itself for the iPhone X with many having joined the queue since the early hours of this morning.

The new device has been described as the “future of smartphone design” with experts believing it will be a huge success - despite its near £1,000 price tag.

Smartphone expert Ernest Doku, from uSwitch.com, said many consumers had chosen to wait for the X as they saw it as the “main event” phone.

Apple used a live event in September to unveil the special edition iPhone to mark its 10th anniversary, complete with an edge-to-edge screen and facial recognition technology.

The phone’s starting price of £999 - which can rise to £1,149 for the highest specification version - sparked some outcry on social media.
