TWO police forces at either side of the globe have managed to track down a mystery tourist who dropped a four figure sum of cash while visiting a Scottish museum.

Victoria Police in Melbourne, Australia confirmed that they have found the mystery tourist after working with Police Scotland.

The police force tagged the Lanarkshire Police Division of Police Scotland in a post on the social media website Facebook saying, "Och aye, we found our guy."

It comes after we previously reported that Australian dollars were discovered by staff at Biggar Museum on August 3.

Police Constable Mark Richardson, of Biggar Police Office, previously said: "We believe the money belongs to an Australian tourist, and that he or she may have unknowingly dropped it when visiting the museum in the town on August 2.

"Despite several attempts, we have not been able to get a hold of the owner, who we believe may be en route to Edinburgh, so thought that an appeal would reach far and wide and hopefully get to them.

"It's a considerable amount to lose and I am sure the owner will be, if not already, concerned when they realise it's gone, however, we hope to put a smile back on their face knowing it's been handed in."

After that post was shared across the internet, Australian officers found the rightful owner of the cash and confirmed that they were in the process contacting them.

The force said: "Victoria Police and Scottish police have finally tracked down the very grateful owner of the four-figure-sum. The Australian tourist from Rosanna attended the Heidelberg Police Station to undergo extensive ID checks and will be reunited with his money shortly."
